Fiery Looping Rain on the Sun [Full HQ video]
Eruptive events on the sun can be wildly different. Some come just with a solar flare, some with an additional ejection of solar material called a coronal mass ejection (CME), and some with complex moving structures in association with changes in magnetic field lines that loop up into the sun’s atmosphere, the corona.
On July 19, 2012, an eruption occurred on the sun that produced all three. A moderately powerful solar flare exploded on the sun’s lower right hand limb, sending out light and radiation. Next came a CME, which shot off to the right out into space. And then, the sun treated viewers to one of its dazzling magnetic displays — a phenomenon known as coronal rain.

Rebecca, AKA 9999AD, is a 16 year old artist from the United States. Because of her mother’s art school background, Rebecca has always experimented with visual creations. She started out with pencil, charcoal, and watercolours. She has always been fascinated by letters and typography, and would often find herself in trouble at school for drawing flames on the word ‘fire’ or melting the letters in ‘melting’.
In 7th grade, she began to study graphic design and typography, pouring over writings and glyphs. By 9th grade, she dove headfirst into GIF art and photography. When asked what inspired her to create her dreamy, mesmerizing, and otherworldly creations, Rebecca said:
“I’ve always seen cool gifs and 3D art, etc. I’ve always wanted to be able to do that—I think that’s the major inspiration in my art. Additionally, my art has served as an outlet for my emotions, allowing me to let some of them out and explain how they feel to others.”
